Changing a wheel next to live traffic is not a job to do alone with the jack from the boot. We come out with a proper trolley jack and the Ranger parked behind you for cover.
One driver had a blowout on the motorway on a day that mattered. We reached them, fitted the spare and had them back on the road.
If there is no spare, the spare is flat too or the wheel is damaged, we load the vehicle onto the trailer and take it to a tyre fitter or your home.

Is it safe to wait in the car?
On a motorway or fast road, no. Get everyone out on the passenger side and wait behind the barrier, well away from the traffic.
